We know we historically had beaver in San Diego county because the Kumeyaay tribe that lives in the area have a name for beaver eventhough few exist here today. Great to see a new video from Brad.

Here in South Carolina, we get plenty of annual rainfall, but there can be long dry spells between the rains. These techniques are great for making things more reliable and predictable, as well as for controlling run-off that can be quite problematic! I really appreciate the focus on using native plants, too. We complain about the environment, but don't realize that we're destroying the environment by introducing all these non-native plants into the local ecosystem. Most insects are specialists, not generalists, and fragmenting the ecosystem with a slew of plants that they can't use means we're literally undercutting the entire food web. No insects means no songbirds because the songbirds need insects as the protein source for chicks in the nest. So far, I've been able to get a good handle on how the water flows in my land, redirecting it and collecting it as needed. I build "beaver dam analogs" in some places and berms in others, all depending on what I have on hand, and it's absolutely wonderful to see it working with the very next rainfall!

Just had a thought which comes to nothing: theoretically, if people were daft enough to be using wells for their water in those zones (which would cause these basins to dry out because they live off the same unconfined aquifer that those wells would), this'd probably raise the level of water in those, nah?

In my country it rains sometimes for days, not just 10 min. I don't understand these ideas to flood trees and plants because trees don't like to stand in water for days. We made channels to drain water from trees and vegetables. So waste of water

Goodness Greatness ! This is the way to go ! Thank you sir for being a great sharer ! Unfortunately in many places on this earth where water is seasonally abundant, like in southeast Mexico where I live, the loss or lack of healthy/intelligent water culture is astounding and depressing. In our rural environment, in almost any stream where there is a natural dam of logs and branches, you will inevitably find hundreds or thousands of plastic bottles of all sorts, plastic bags, styrafoam articles, flip-flop sandles, tennis shoes, insecticide spray cans, all things plastic and garbage and to top it off... even disposable diapers by the large bag-fulls (and of course used), light bulbs etc. , etc. , etc. I must thank you for everything you share and your educational manners. Education IS culture ! Sooo sad when we lose or never acquire proper and caring water culture. Apologies for my rant folks, but I do not exaggerate
